Storm Ready?

As John Wooden says, "Confidence Comes From Being Prepared". 

Preparing for Winter Weather around The North Shore can be a full time job.  One thing that would be a help would be an Emergency Kit to have on hand for storm situations.  In addition to the supplies often listed in any build a kit, you need to consider your family and your family's needs.  Do you have a senior that you need to include? Or maybe your pet?  Think about the special needs of your pet if you should be out of your home for any length of time...pet medications, supplements, blankets, food, and extra water...Maybe even their own plastic bag or duffel bag!

Ideas for Items to include in your Emergency Kit are as follows:

Water: (1gal/person/day for at least 3 days, for drinking and sanitation.

Food: at least a 3 day supply of non-perishable food)

A Radio-battery operated or hand crank and a NOAA Weather radio with tone alert

Flashlight(s): Consider headlights for hands free use.

First Aid Kit

Extra Batteries, Battery packs for phones

Whistle to signal for help

Dust Mask, Plastic Sheeting, Duct tape:for sheltering in place.  Or fort making!

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation

Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities

Manual Can Opener for food

Printed local maps

Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

Deck of Cards

Blankets or sleeping bag for each person

Prescription Medications

Non-prescription Medicines: pain relievers,anti-diarrhea medication,antacids or laxatives

Glasses and contact lens solution

Infant supplies:formula,diapers,wipes,diaper rash cream

Important family documents:copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records saved electronically or in a waterproof,portable container

Complete change of clothing appropriate for your climate...sturdy shoes

Chlorine Bleach and eye dropper to disinfect water

Fire Extinguisher

Matches in a waterproof container

Personal hygiene products

Mess kits, paper cups, plates, paper towels and plastic utensils

Paper and pencil

Books,games,puzzles, puzzle books

Disposable Gloves

Where should these be kept?  Since you never know where you will be when an Emergency occurs...One at home, one at work and one in your car!
